Benjamin Nelson Presents The Violent Screen

Has increasing permissiveness, coupled with extraordinary technological advances, created a culture of graphic violence and sexual exploitation in contemporary films? The evolution of the depiction of sex and violence in Hollywood, from the silent movies to the present day, will be discussed by Benjamin Nelson, Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at Fairleigh Dickinson University, author and distinguished lecturer. He will focus on film genres such as the early westerns, romances, war movies, gangster sagas and horror movies of the 1920s, 30s and 40s, and their modern counterparts from the post WWII era into the 21st Century. Join us for this lecture on Monday, November 14th at 7:30pm in the Columbia High School Library.

This event, the Redpath Lecture, honors Robert U. Redpath, a distinguished former trustee of the Adult School. Sign up for this lecture on the South Orange-Maplewood Adult School’s website, www.somadultschool.org, or by calling 973-378-7620. The lecture fee is only $10!
