With MayFest about to take place this Sunday, May 16, Maplewood's Mayor Vic DeLuca has made a few comments on the fair's importance to the community. "MayFest is our largest street fair and it was designed to allow residents from all parts of Maplewood and visitors from other communities to enjoy a fun-filled day with great food, entertainment and activities," the mayor stated. "The event has grown significantly since we started back in Maplecrest Park, and it provides both good times and the opportunity for people to see and appreciate what Springfield Avenue has to offer." Mayor De Luca also observed, "Many of our residents have experienced street fairs and festivals in major cities, like the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival in New York. Springfield Avenue is still a work in progress, but we are trying to create a similar atmosphere right here in Maplewood. MayFest becomes a showcase for all of the great things that the businesses and restaurants on the Avenue have to offer."
MayFest will run from 11am-5pm on May 16 (rain date May 23) along and around Springfield Avenue's shopping district, featuring a steady stream of live music, vendors galore, a special fencing demo, and Maplewood's first annual Classic Car Show.
