Six Columbia High Students Reach Semifinals of Temple University Film Contest
Film projects created by six Columbia High School students were chosen as semifinalists at the Derek Freese National Film and Video Competition held annually at Temple University in Philadelphia.
The Festival is sponsored by the Derek Freese Foundation, Greater Philadelphia Film Office, Sony, Focal Press, Glidecam and Temple University Film and Media Arts Department.
Winning Student filmmakers, all under the direction of CHS film and animation teacher Boris Gavrilovic, include:
- William Sokoloski for clay-animation "Blob Wars"
- Emily Schnorr for clay-animation "Picnic"
- Som Skoller for 16mm experimental film "Repeat Offenses"
- Ethan Oberman, Chris Robins and Grace Gifford for 16mm experimental film "O Captain My Captain."
The students' achievements were recognized by the South Orange-Maplewood School District at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, December 20, 2010.
