South Mountain Peace Action To Hold Israeli-Palestinian Peace Forum

  • March 16, 2010

South Mountain Peace Action, the Maplewood-South Orange pacifist group, will host a Mar. 24 forum titled, "Israeli-Palestinian Peace: The Obama-Clinton Program for a Two-State Solution and How We Can Support It." The event is a response to the headline-making developments in US-Israeli relations during Vice President Biden's recent visit to the Israel. The speakers will be Ori Nir of Americans for Peace Now, the sister organization of the Israeli peace movement Peace Now, and Hussein Ibish, senior fellow at the American Task Force on Palestine, a Washington-based group that supports Palestinian moderates and a two-state solution. Nir was in Israel during Biden's visit. There will also be a representative of the pro-Israel pro-peace group J Street on hand to discuss the group's new national grassroots program to promote a two-state solution.

The forum will take place on Mar. 24 at Maplewood Memorial Library from 7:30pm-9pm. It is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Paul Surovell, Chairman, South Mountain Peace Action at 973-763-9493 or 973-762-3115 or paul4sure@aol.com.

South Mountain Peace Action does not consider itself a "pacifist" group in the literal sense. We advocate peaceful alternatives to military force, but also endorse the UN Charter which allows military force when used in self-defense. Our mission statement appears on our website, along with more details about our March 24th forum on Israeli-Palestinian Peace: http://www.BeAboutPeace.com.
