You love this community, but do you know it? Sure you do, and here's a challenge to prove it.

The numbered photos date from the mid-1940s. All but the "Super 7" are still in existence, and still function, but some have changed their form and function significantly.

Your challenge: Identify the town (South Orange or Maplewood), the building, and what it is now.

Super challenge: What or where are (were) the "Super 7" photos?

Send us your answers; we'll select a winner (randomly) from the entrants for a gift card prize!

About this column: This local history column considers life in the area from first settlement to the recent past. Questions and comments are welcome. A guide to researching the history of your own home is here: http://patch.com/A-qsl

Readers, good luck on this one. I only have two so far. This is tough! I find myself doing actual research on this.

Here's a big hunt: picture trees and shrubs around many of these and you may recognize them more quickly.

Hi Marcia,
I'm only seeing one set of six pictures (plus the original large one), the other two sets are blank. The one set only appeared when I clicked on a blank space in the first set pictured. I'm going to try another browser. Does everyone else see all 18?

Very challenging! I know some, have ideas on some others......

Hi John,

We'll work to fix that problem. Weird that is happening. It appears to only be confined to Internet Explorer and not Firefox. If you send me an e-mail at scottegelberg@gmail.com, I can send you (and anyone else experiencing this problem) the photos.

I think I know 8 to 10 of them.
I may need to start driving around and figuring out the rest.
