Blotter: Two Daytime Home Burglaries

The following information was supplied by the Maplewood Police Department.

Two home burglaries were reported to Maplewood police in the last week, both occurring while owners were not at home during the day. A Richmond Avenue home was broken into on Sept. 20 when someone broke through a pane of glass on a back door. A Burnett Street home (in the Golf Island neighborhood) was entered on Sept. 22 through an unlocked window. In both cases, jewelry was stolen.

This week's police blotter, which comes to us courtesy of Maplewood Police Captain Paul Conlon, also contains additional information on a late night robbery on Burnett Avenue that occurred last Thursday and was reported on Patch on Friday.

Sept. 20, 2011: Theft from Auto- An unlocked 2001 Chevy Caviler was entered sometime between midnight and 8:00 am and the actor removed an IPOD Nano and charger from the center console. The car was parked in the driveway of a home on Highland Ave.

Sept. 20, 2011: Burglary- A resident of Richmond Avenue reported to Police that an unknown actor entered his home by breaking a window pane on the rear door which enabled the actor to unlock the door.  Once inside, the actor ransacked dresser drawers and jewelry boxes in the second floor bedrooms and removed several pieces of jewelry.  The home was vacant from 9:30 in the morning until 6:15 pm.

Sept. 22, 2011: Robbery- At 11:30 pm a man walked in to Police Headquarters to report that he had just been robbed at gun point while he was walking on Burnett Ave near Dehart Park.  The incident occurred approximately 15 minutes before he arrived at Headquarters and it involved two black males. One of the men was reportedly armed with a handgun.

The victim reported that as he was walking north on Burnett Ave near Dehart Park the two men approached him from behind and one of them brandished a handgun and demanded the victim turn over his money.  The second suspect then began to go through the victim's pockets and removed a wallet with some cash and a cell phone.  They also took the victim's back pack which contained some personal items.

The victim, a 27 year old man from Manor Dr. in Newark, was not injured in the incident and the two suspects, who were wearing masks on their faces, were last seen on foot towards Springfield Ave.  The suspect armed with the handgun is described as a black male, 5''7" tall, dark skinned, with a white t-shirt and light blue jean shorts.  The second suspect is described as 5'6" tall, muscular build, wearing a blue and yellow stripped shirt.

Sept. 22, 2011: Burglary- A home on Burnett Street was broken into sometime between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm while the resident was at work.  Entry was gained through an unlocked kitchen window on the first floor.  The resident reported to Police that several pieces of jewelry were taken from the second floor bedrooms.

What's up with the use of "actor"? I would think that you could come up with a more descriptive pronoun.

It's a deliberately vague word used to identify a person without implying fault or guilt.

And it's a noun, not a pronoun.

I agree with scandiffic. Using the word "actor" is too PC Correct. Call it what it is folks. Also if more people would get involved and report suspicuous activities, we wouldn't be such plum pickings for these "actors". People are sooo PC correct, they won't get involved, and have the attitude let the other guy report the problems. When we get too many of these "actors" coming into our town, maybe people will wake up and smell the coffee, and help the Police (who aren't actors).

"Actor" is the word the police have been using for years and years and years. It has nothing to do with being PC.

To N Muson: Were do you get your facts from? Having a brother who's worked his way up in law enforcement, I never heard them call the culprits "actor". I also have friends that are FBI, and State Police, and never heard them use the word "actor". Just curious.

Hmmm...years ago I felt like I couldn't get arrested as an actor...maybe I should give it another shot?! (Pun intended!)
