Boogie Night in Maplewood
Dry clean those hot pants and get out the body glitter, disco night hits the Burgdorff this Friday, Jan 20.
If you're more of a disco queen than a rock n' roll desperado, Boogie Nights might just be your event this Friday night, Jan. 20 (otherwise, check out Battle of the Basement Bands at Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange on Saturday, Jan. 21 — or do both!).
BOOGIE NIGHTS: DISCO, which will run from 8-11 p.m., at the Burgdorff is Studio B's brainchild, in cooperation with local dance company step2gether (www.step2gether.com).
Explains Studio B's Jenny Turner Hall, "Our latest shenanigan is bringing back the notion of the 'social dance.' Not a wedding, not a bar mitzvah... a dance purely for the joy of it — and in a space larger than your living room."
"We took a little poll on facebook," continues Turner Hall, "as to what style of dance people would fancy.... Disco won. Just edged out swing. If this disco event's successful, we will try to produce a swing event with, hopefully, a
live band."
Entry is $10 and includes a lesson with a professional ballroom dancer/instructor Jaycee Gossett.
Follow Studio B on facebook at "studiobmaplewood." Studio B is a project of the HK Community Fund.
