Car Fire on Clinton Avenue (PHOTOS)

Car erupts in flames in driveway; owner is unharmed.

A car was demolished after it erupted in flames shortly after its owner parked it in his driveway on Clinton Avenue on Sunday night, according to Maplewood Fire Department Deputy Chief Joseph Callaghan. The owner had earlier exited the car and was not injured.

Ten minutes after the man pulled into his driveway, a neighbor alerted him that his vehicle was on fire next to his garage, Callaghan said, and the man called 9-1-1.

"The quick 9-1-1 call helped the Maplewood Fire Department respond in time before the fire spread to the garage," said Callaghan. "There was minor heat damage to the garage and the vehicle is a total loss."

Callaghan said the cause is undetermined.
