"Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance, Gotta Give," a fundraiser concert put on by the South Orange Maplewood Education Foundation to raise money for renovations to the CHS auditorium, will be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. It's the start of a three-year initiative to raise $200,000, as well as a 20th anniversary celebration for SOMEF, and many locally-based actors and performers are lending their talents.
Headliners scheduled to perform are Tony winner Christine Ebersole, Suzzane Douglass and Lydia Johnson Dance. A music faculty trumpet trio and Heidi Burgermaster and a CHS alumni jazz band will be joined by South Orange-Maplewood faculty and parents—Suzanne Hevner, Nikki Reininga, Liz Mills Smith, Janet Bustrin and directors Tricia Benn and Bethany Pettigrew—as well as Columbia High School's talent from the past, present and future.
Another headliner is South Orange resident Andre Braugher, who currently stars in the TNT series "Men of a Certain Age." He won an Emmy in 1998 for his leading role in the TV series "Homicide: Life on the Street" and another in 2006 for his leading role in the FX mini-series "Thief." He'll perform the Abbott and Costello skit "Who's on first?" with his 12-year-old son an Isaiah, a reprise of a performance they gave at Marshall School when the younger Braugher was a student there.
Tickets for the show, which include a post-show dessert reception, sponsored by the CHS Music Parents' Association, are $75 for preferred seats, $50 for standard seats and $25 for students with valid ID.
Another option is a 5 p.m. cocktail party before the show at the home of art collector Patricia Bell in South Orange's Montrose neighborhood. Admission is included in several show and party packages.
