You might think of the early February Maplewood police reports as all thefts, great and small. Two thefts reported by MPD show how the price range of theft targets can vary dramatically.
On the high end, we have some old-fashioned grand theft auto. According to Maplewood police reports, a 2006 Audi A4 Sedan was stolen from the DCH auto dealership on Millburn Ave. The car, which has a Kelly Blue Book value of between $18,000 and $27,000, was recovered on Feb. 13 by Police in Irvington after it was involved in a motor vehicle accident. The driver fled the scene before police arrived, and the authorities are not sure when the car was stolen from the dealership.
There’s no Kelly Blue Book for candy, so we have no idea how much the haul taken from a theft that occurred the next day was worth. The police department reports that a black male, described as about 35 years old, stole an unknown amount of chewing gum and other goods from the Springfield Ave. Quick Chek store. The store manager told police that the man was about 5’9” and wearing a black jacket, and grabbed the gum before running out of the store without paying. Reports say he was spotted running north on Boyden Ave.
