Blotter: Tide Detergent Shoplifted, Restaurant Linens Go Missing

The following information was supplied by the Maplewood Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Stolen restaurant linens? Shoplifting bottles of Tide detergent?

All crime is serious, but a few incidents in this week's Maplewood Police Department blotter provoke curiousity rather than alarm.

The police report that a man allegedly attempted to steal three Tide brand detergent bottles from the Extra Supermarket on Irvington Avenue last Tuesday, April 3. Police arrested Robert Wright, 39, of Irvington and charged him with shoplifting. The bottles were valued at $64.17.

Also last Tuesday, police officers were flagged down by an employee of a Maplewood Avenue restaurant who reported that a white man in his mid-50s with salt-and-pepper hair had stolen restaurant linens from behind a restaurant. The man had pulled up in his blue or black full-sized cargo van at approximately 11:38 am and removed the linens from their bin.

Other items on this week's blotter — provided courtesy of Lt. Dean Naddeo — include a narcotics arrest and package theft. An attempted home burglary is detailed here.
