Below is the official press release from the Maplewood Police Department:
Police were called to a home on Midland Blvd. on report of a dispute taking place at 8:53 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Upon the officers' arrival, they were told by the homeowner that a worker from Waste Management had entered her backyard to collect the garbage and that her dog had responded over in the direction of the man and was barking.
The woman reported to Police that the dog was struck by the man with a silver object and suffered an injury to the nose. The man from Waste Management, a temporary employee, reported that the dog came at him and placed him in fear of being bitten so he struck the dog on the nose with a pen to avoid being bitten.
The dog sustained a cut to the snout area and was later taken by a family member for treatment. The man from Waste Management did not report any injuries in the incident. After a search for any possible weapon was unsuccessful, Officers on scene identified all parties involved and referred them to the Municipal Court to file any charges deemed appropriate.
