Dress Up Your Dog For Halloween

A contest at Brookdale Park and South Mountain Dog Park for best Halloween dog costume features Essex Co. Exec Joseph N. DiVincenzo.

Essex County invites residents to take out their four-legged friends, dressed in Halloween's best, to compete in this year's "Strut Your Mutt" contest.

The county scheduled two parades for this year's Annual Canine Halloween Costume Parade and Contest on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The first is at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield/Montclair with registration at 9:15 a.m. The parade starts at 10 a.m.

The second is set for South Mountain Dog Park in Maplewood/Millburn. Registration starts at 1:15 p.m. and the parade at 2 p.m.

"Whether you own a dog or not, we invite you to come see creative costumes worn by dogs of all breeds,” Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. said.

Participation is free for residents to dress up their pooch as bat dog, ninja dog or in any creative custome to compete.

Prizes will be award to various categories. In last year's parade, prizes were awarded to pets and their owners for the most creative, the scariest and the best pet/owner costume duo.

Rain date is the following Saturday, Oct. 27. For more information, please call 973-239-2485.

Unless your dog is recently dead (and if so my condolences) or stuffed, put nothing on him or her but a simple standard collar. Just another gimmick to make money for Asian manufacturers to make the American's believe they have to put their pets through this uncomfortable, sacred and nerve wracking shame. What's next from Chine? Dress up your light switches? No. That's done. House plants? some. Oh! costumes for your fish. If you dress up your dog, shame on you! Why do it? Does you dog actually like looking like Pee Wee Herman?
