Fourth of July Wrap-up
Here is a guide to our blanket coverage of Maplewood's Fourth of July festivities.
Looking over our coverage, the Fourth seems to have been a long day of fun and fireworks. Let us know what was your favorite part of the day and if you have any pictures you want us to share. In the meantime, here's a guide to the reports we ran before, during and after the holiday weekend.
Before the big day, we talked to Fourth of July Committee member Howard Gilman about the township's tradition of going big for the Fourth and what was in store for this year.
Also, we paid a visit to local artist John Kaufman to check out his annual July Fourth art project, which this year focused on cubes and math.
In other intersections of art and patriotism, we looked back at the town's history of Independence Day celebrations through the Township Municipal building's murals.
The day itself kicked off in high style with a parade featuring children, bicycles and the colors red, white and blue.
More on the athletic side, the Township's annual summer 5k race followed, where Karl O’Reilly of Morristown was declared the winner with a time of 16:10.
In another annual competition, calories were consumed instead of burned, as youngsters stuffed and chilled their faces to earn ribbons in the ice cream eating contest.
Children also showed up in force for the annual pet show, which featured dogs, cats, snakes and more.
The day went on, and faces were painted, circuses were performed and more. And our photographers were there for all of it.
