Michael G. Leonard of Highland Avenue in Maplewood debuted his film Bazookas to an extremely enthusiastic full house last night at the Maplewood Cinema in Maplewood Village.

According to his wife Robin, the film has been Leonard's baby from conception through writing, directing, editing and marketing. Leonard will begin selling copies of the film on DVD through the movie's Web site today, May 29.

The film follows the story of two brothers, Angus and Judah, who vie for control of the family gym, Bazookas, after the death of their father, Gus. From the trailer (and the poster), it seems that the creative use of breasts in promoting the gym plays a, well, um, sizeable part in the story. Robin assures me that the film has more to offer than perky pairs. But, what the hell, National Lampoon films, Wedding Crashers and Woody Allen (back when he was funny) have taught us that breasts make for, or at least certainly do not compromise, world-class comedy.
