Jefferson School Gives Back

Once a month during lunch hours, the Jefferson School store is open for the shopping needs of 3rd to 5th graders. However, one day this month was a little bit different.

Mrs. Grierson, the principal, Fran Lichtman who runs the school store, and the Jefferson PTA decided to donate all profits from one day to help the people of Japan in their time of need. According to Lichtman, "It was a moment that allowed the teachers and Mrs.Grierson to speak to the students about the importance of opening their hearts and minds to the needs of others. The support on that Friday was overwhelming! The store was absolutely mobbed with students who wanted to show their charitable spirit."

Lichtman reports that the students "bought out everything and then even donated money when nothing was left to purchase. They were so proud to be a part of this." The effort raised $700 which was donated to Japan via AmeriCares.
