Making Lemonade Out of Lemons for the Maplewood Library
Innovative fundraiser to help out the Maplewood Memorial Library.
It's tough times for libraries, but the leadership of the Maplewood Memorial Library isn't letting all the bad news about state funding for libraries make them sour. In fact, the Grassroots Fundraising Committee of the library is taking the adage—"If someone gives you lemons, make lemonade"—quite literally.
The Committee has devised a new fundraiser—Make a Stand for the Library: Lemonade Stand Fundraiser.
As Carol Buchanan of the Committee explained: "Here's a chance for you and your family to make a difference. Choose a day during the week of June 24 through July 1 or July 22 through July 29 (or both). Set up a family lemonade stand in front of your house. Make some baked goods if you like. Bring the proceeds to the Maplewood Library. The money will be used to purchase books, CDs and DVDs."
Information kits on the fundraiser are available from both Main Library or Hilton branches.
Already, Lucy Leonard and Clara Chamarro raised $150 for the Make a Stand fundraiser selling lemonade and treats at the launch of the Summer Reading Club at the Main Library on June 21.
And today, you can catch Library Board President Katherine Hilaire and the aforementioned Buchanan at the Maplewood Train Station selling lemonade and baked goods from 5-7 p.m.
So, plunk down some cash and drink up! Just don't spill any lemonade on your library books.
