Maplewood Artist Exhibits at Monmouth Museum

Local artist Jane Dell is featured in a solo show.

This story was submitted by Larry Dell, an artist who reviews art for local publications. He is married to Jane Dell.

Artist Jane Dell will exhibit her latest work at the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, New Jersey, in a solo show that is part of the museum’s Emerging Artist series.

The show kicks off with an opening reception on Friday, July 20 from 6-8 p.m. and will run through Aug. 19.

In addition, Dell will discuss her work and influences at a gallery talk at the museum on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 7-8 p.m.

This is Dell's first solo exhibition in New Jersey. She has had exhibitions of her work in New York City at The Creative Center and the First Presbyterian Church Gallery. Recently her work was on view at the Alfa Gallery in New Brunswick, City Without Walls (cWOW) Metro Show (currently on tour), and the New Jersey Arts Guild in Rahway.

Her work was awarded the “Exceptional Merit” award in the Metro show and “Best in Show” at the NJ Arts Guild of Rahway’s “Nexus” exhibition.

Most of the work at the Monmouth Museum is mixed media painting and collage on translucent Mylar. The painting medium is watercolor inks and graphite.

At their most basic level the work in the Monmouth show functions on two levels: macro and micro. From a distance the representational elements form a complex picture that displays the artist’s subtle, sophisticated knowledge and use of form and color.  But on closer inspection individual elements within the works combine to reveal a multi level narrative that forms each picture’s subject. For the viewer the result is an engaging, challenging work of art filled with discovery.
