Maplewood Fire Chief, Daughters 'Pedal for Prevention'

Chief Dingelstedt and his two daughters will cycle to support St. Barnabas Burn Center.

Maplewood Fire Chief Michael Dingelstedt and his daughters Kristin and Megan will participate in the seventh annual Pedaling for Prevention Bike Ride on Sunday, a fundraiser for The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Ranked as one of the top-10 burn centers in the nation and New Jersey's only certified burn treatment facility, the center holds a special place in the hearts of the Dingelstedt family. When daughter Megan was 22 months old, she seriously burned her fingers on a light bulb, requiring three months of outpatient treatment at the Burn Center.

The care and support the family received daily at the Burn Center was second to none, said Dingelstedt. In addition, Dingelstedt has supported Saint Barnabas throughout his thirty-one years as a firefighter and has ridden in this event since its inception. This is the second year his daughters are riding with him as part of "Team Dingel."
