Maplewood Native Returns to the Airwaves
"Scrubs," starring Columbia High School graduate Zach Braff, switches networks starting tonight.
Television situation comedy "Scrubs," starring Maplewood's own Zach Braff as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, returns to the airwaves Tuesday night on the ABC network. The show follows a group of doctors and nurses at a bustling hospital, and features a striking mix of comedy and soap opera intrigue. This season, the first on the new network, is likely to be the final season of the show.
The show began its life in 2001 on NBC. Its mix of serial drama and cut-away visual gags garnered a loyal fan base, but was never a ratings powerhouse. The show only mounted 11 episodes in 2007 because of the Writer's Guild of America strike. ABC subsequently brokered a deal to broadcast its eighth season.
Braff has maintained a strong Maplewood connection. Columbia High School was briefly featured in his hit film "Garden State," and Braff hosted a 14-year-old Maplewood resident diagnosed with cancer on the "Scrubs" set last year.
