Maplewood Police Officer Injured in Car Accident
Officer was returning to police station when the crash occurred.
A Maplewood police officer suffered a head injury following a two-car accident on Springfield Avenue over the weekend, according to Capt. John Perna.
The officer, Justin Moen, was making a left turn into the Police and Courts Building shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday when his car struck another vehicle headed in the opposite direction, said Perna.
Both Moen and the other driver, a 56-year-old Irvington woman whom police did not identify, were able to get out of their cars unassisted.
Moen was taken to University Hospital with a head injury. He received stitches in the back of his head and was released.
The Irvington woman complained of pain and was also taken to University Hospital, police said. She was released the next morning.
The cause of the accident is being investigated. Moen has returned to full duty.
