Mario, Matilda Cuomo at Words

Ex-New York governor and former first lady read excerpts from their latest books

Former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo doesn't appear to have plans for further elective office, but if he did, he would find some support in Maplewood, based on the crowd that showed up Saturday at Words Bookstore for a book-signing.

The governor and his wife, Matilda, were the first author-guests at Words, which opened recently on Maplewood Avenue.

Cuomo has written a children's book, C is for Ciao from which he read an excerpt.

Matilda Cuomo recently published The Person Who Changed My Life: Prominent Americans Recall Their Mentors. For the book, Cuomo interviewed famous and noteworthy people about who inspired them in their youth.

The bookstore's owner, Joe Zimile, and his wife, Ellen, have personal ties to the Cuomos. Governor Cuomo is the chairman of the Board of Directors for Daylight Forensic and Advisory, LLC, a regulatory consulting and investigative firm whose co-founder and CEO is Ellen Zimiles, Jonah's wife.
