Mind Over Chatter ‘About Town’

Free your mind with free meditation classes, today!

I have sincere empathy for Christina Aguilera.

Sure, she flubbed the words to our national anthem, but I keep calling my own two kids by one another’s name – and they’re opposite genders. (I used to laugh when my father went through all three of my sisters' names before stumbling upon mine... I’m not laughing anymore.)

I blame the snow. It seems to be making everyone claustrophobic, crazy and cross – especially when it comes to crossing over frozen Ice Mountains to simply cross the street.

My comparatively super-serene friend, Lilly Welch, credits meditation for helping her overcome not only snow-induced stress but the demands of raising three girls while remaining an uber talented hairstylist.

“It really works for me,” says Lilly. "I've only worked my way up to nine minute, but I really don't need much more. It really allows me to stop, breathe and regroup. When I find myself in a frazzled, frenzied place it gets me back into a positive one."

And as for keeping her three daughters’ names straight?

“I don't really have to focus on the names," she says with a laugh. "Because when I call one, they all end up coming - for now!”

Sounds promising, but I’m afraid I’d just fall asleep if left to my own devices...in the same boat? Here’s something that might help:

Today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. life coach and meditation instructor Paige Continentino will be hosting Meditation for the Imagination Free Class Day at Jazzberries Center For Music & Art  at 1677 Springfield Avenue. The day is split into classes devoted to different age groups (including one for moms) but the benefits remain the same:

“What’s great about meditation is that provides a deeper connection with yourself,” explains Paige. “It helps you find a calmer space within to really sink into and that translates into outward benefits. It helps you rejuvenate, de-stress and approach life in more positive, powerful way.”

Boy, does THAT sound good!
