News-Record: Flourney to Face Court on Tuesday

Dwayne Flourney, 26, will be arraigned in Newark on March 27 for the murder of his father and grandmother in Maplewood on March 10.

Dwayne Flourney, 26, of Maplewood is scheduled to be arraigned in Newark on Tuesday, March 27, for the killings of his father and grandmother on Northview Terrace on March 10 — according to the News-Record.

Flourney was on March 13 and charged with the killings. The bodies of his father, Brian Flourney, and his grandmother, Sandra Flourney, at their Northview Terrace by Maplewood Police and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office on Monday, March 12.

The News-Record is also reporting further information about Dwayne Flourney — that he pleaded guilty in July 2011 to a fourth-degree, drug-possession charge in Union County and that he served briefly in the Navy in March 2006. He attended Columbia High School.

On Friday, Maplewood Police and Township staff held a . At the meeting, Chief of Police Robert Cimino called the recent string of high-profile, but unrelated, crimes "uncharacteristic" of Maplewood. Mayor Vic DeLuca extended his sympathies to the Flourney family and vowed that public safety was the No. 1 priority of elected officials.
