News-Record: Rec Director to Leave End of Year
The Township has decided to end George Rague's tenure as Rec Director as of Dec. 31.
George Rague will be ending his tenure as Maplewood's Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs effective Dec. 31, 2011, according to the News-Record.
The News-Record reports that Rague was "fired" by Township Administrator Joseph Manning, although Manning could not be reached for comment.
Rague was Director of Recreation for four years, replacing Roger Brauchli. Deputy Mayor Fred Profeta told the News-Record that the decision had nothing to do with the possible merger of recreation services between Maplewood and South Orange.

I saw this in the News Record. Printed version. I was shocked to see that he makes over $90,000. a year. On top of that you've got pension plus health care benefits. Some of these salaries don't deal with reality. Our townfolk have to start keeping the costs down. Taxpayers are overstressed, especially in Essex Co.

I’m very sorry to see George go. He has always been a fine upstanding man, very approachable in the community, kind and hard working. It’s going to be tough to get someone to fill his shoes. I hope the township administrator know what he’s doing.
