NPR: Olympic Hopeful Mixes Muslim Faith And Fencing
Ibtihaj Muhammad may be representing the U.S. — and Maplewood and South Orange — in the Olympics. She spoke with NPR about her talents and her Islamic faith.
World-class fencing champion Ibtihaj Muhammad — native of Maplewood and graduate of Columbia High School — was on National Public Radio on January 5 being interviewed by Michel Martin about her remarkable talents and the fact that it is believed she will be the first practicing Muslim to represent the U.S. in women's fencing and the first American to wear Islamic head-covering while competing.
