Photo of the Day: A Little Mischief at Ritzer?
The "Bully-Free Zone" sign has undergone some cosmetic surgery....
The "Bully-Free Zone" sign on the fence along Ritzer Field and Valley Street (behind Columbia High School) has undergone a bit of a change. District parent Karla Greenleaf-MacEwan brought it to our attention late this afternoon. "I had to circle the block," she said, to make certain she was really seeing what she thought she was seeing.
Patch is waiting to hear from the district on the sign change: Social Studies project or a bit of mischief?

I added the "before" photo to see the transformation.

I really want to know what happened to the "A". Plus the detail put into the "I" and "R" in Russia is stunning.

Pretty impressive prank. Btw, does our high school offer Russian as a language?Maybe it should!
It would also appear that some amongst our younger set are feeling more than a bit bullied by all this 'anti-bully' banter...

I agree with Lauren and Mark. I'm concerned about how the new NJ legislation and its fairly broad definition of bullying is affecting the behavior policies in our schools. It seems like there is suddenly a lot of pressure on teachers and administrators to report behavior that could be interpreted as bullying. We can strongly discourage hurtful behaviors (like mild teasing between elementary school children) without labeling such behaviors as bullying.

I love that it is drawing more attention to a much needed conversation!

The response from the South Orange-Maplewood School District late Wednesday evening: "The change to the sign is a result of mischief and will be removed first thing tomorrow morning."
