Spearheaded by Clinton School parent and PTA Board member Jackie Lahey, members of the Clinton school community are creating a parade float made almost entirely out of recycled materials. With Memorial Day fast approaching, Clinton parents Heather Kern, Kevin Henegan, Jeremy Moss and Kevin Henegan have been busy putting the final touches on the float.
The float was designed by parents Heather Kern, Jeremy Moss, and Melissa Healey, and built over the course of many weekends by Clinton parents and students, and is made out of 98 percent recycled materials. Some of the elements used in its construction are evident in the final product. Keen eyes will spot hundreds of blue plastic New York Times bags, cereal boxes and aluminum foil.
To reflect the concern for the planet’s health that went into its construction, the float was built in the shape of a globe. Students are encouraged to march with the float dressed in costumes made out of recycled materials.
Look for them at Monday’s parade, and maybe afterwards as well; the Clinton parents are hoping to find a permanent home for the float in town.
