POLL: Did Obama Do the Right Thing by Supporting Gay Marriage?

President Barack Obama made big headlines with his announcement this week.

President Barack Obama made national headlines this week when he came out in support of gay marriage during an interview on ABC News.

Obama said he has changed his stance on the issue and said, for him, personally, "I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

Reporters at ABC called the statement historical. Obama's remarks came just after North Carolina formally banned gay marriage.

Some critics have said the president may have come out for gay marriage for politcal reasons, in anticipation of the upcoming presidential election, but others say his sentiments are sincere.

I honestly in my heart do not feel the leader of the free world should air his views on this one way or the other. Marriage is something between TWO PEOPLE be they gay, straight, green, orange or alien. None of this should involve political or religious views.

In fact, a majority of Americans do support gay marriage at this point. This is the civil rights issue of our time and it's important for the President to show leadership on it.

Wonder how much a President's opinion matters, gay marriage acceptance is gradually on the rise already with or without a President's endorsement. Society will take its own time as more and more parents and families who have a gay child will join in support of their children.
