UPDATED: PSE&G Estimates Sunday for Maplewood Power Restoration
PSE&G released Sunday as an estimated date of power restoration to Maplewood.
Update, 11/3, 2 p.m.:
PSE&G has provided an estimated restoration plan that projects power to be restored to Maplewood by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. To see a complete list of power restoration estimation times from PSE&G, click here.
From most recent PSE&G press release: Essex County-- Of the 346,260 customers in Essex County, 251,000 customers lost electricity. As of Saturday morning, 122,400 customers remain out of service.-- PSE&G has restored service to 65% of the customers in Newark and will be working in the city all weekend.-- Crews will be also be focusing on Irvington, West Orange, Montclair, East Orange, Bloomfield, Maplewood, Orange and Belleville this weekend.
For updates on the power situation, follow Maplewood Patch on Facebook and Twitter.
PSE&G has restored power to some homes in Maplewood as of late Friday evening, according to Mayor Vic DeLuca and residents posting on Maplewood's Facebook Page.
Posters confirmed power coming back on in certain areas of the Hilton section, Golf Island and the area by the Maplewood Golf Course east of Valley Road: "Broadview ave and Manley terrace have power now," wrote one. Others said power was back on Rynda Road, Marie Place, a portion of Concord Avenue, Park Avenue and S. Pierson.
The Springfield Avenue Partnership posted at around 6 p.m.: "We are getting reports from some of the Springfield Avenue District businesses that power is being restored and they are opening for business. Yay!"
The SAP also reported that the Walgreen's on Springfield Avenue will be open for business Saturday at 8 a.m. (although all their perishable food has been destroyed).
In an update on its website Friday night at 9:30 p.m., PSE&G reported it had restored service to more than 1 million PSE&G customers statewide, leaving 660,000 customers still without power.
The utility estimates they will have "virtually all" impacted customers restored to service by Nov. 9, though it might be longer for residents with flooding or downed line issues.
At shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, PSE&G tweeted, "Love sharing GOOD NEWS. Significant progress, we've repaired 7 substations. Subs are the backbone of our system & had to be repaired 1st." Once substations are repaired, PSE&G can start moving trees and getting small circuits back faster.
In the release, PSE&G said also it was focusing on: restoring power to gas refinieries, identifying gas stations that need power restored to get gas flowing, and clearing trees and downed wires to allow for repair of overhead lines.
To report a power outage, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line: 1-800-436-PSEG.

You're right... these crews that are out there 24/7, with problems in their own homes that they are ignoring to work for US. How dare they take a break for coffee!? How could they not realize that we have such priveleged folks on Porter Rd (or anywhere) that DESERVE power faser than others. You have no idea what they're doing, Margie. What their priorities are, if your substation is back and operational, if there are reasons beyond anyone's control for your lack of power.
Be thankful Maplewood isn't LBI, or Mantaloking, or Breezy Point. Sit in the dark and think about how selfish this post makes you sound.

Carolyn, you might want to post a volunteer opportunity. Newark councilman Ronald Rice posted on Facebook that they need volunteers to help prepare and package hot meals for seniors Saturday and Sunday 10-4 at Speedway School on S. Orange Ave. It's the brand new school on left side of street just before the Garden State Parkway so close to home.

What concerns me is that I am not seeing power trucks. I am especially not seeing any at the blown transformer on Prospect and Harvard!

No power on Tuscan Street. It's cold and very difficult to live like this. How can we expect the children to be cold all night and go to school in the morning. We were not prepared for this.

Haven't so much as seen a pseg truck on Jefferson Ave. the problem we have is that Maplewood is not densely populated enough to be a priority for pseg. Though I saw they restored the golf course. No heat but we can golf at night.

November 9th is not acceptable, especially with the threat of a potential nor'easter on the way.

Tholl, chill. She's frustrated and anxious like everybody else, and is allowed to vent.
The issue on restoration is simple math: they want to restore power to as many people as possible with each repair. That means more densely populated areas (like the "hood") are likelier to see restoration first. Frustrating for us, but makes sense.
It would be good of they could give us a better sense of time frame. If we're talking a week people may need to make plans to relocate temporarily.

I understand the frustration... I think we all feel it in varying degrees. What I do not understand is placing blame on the hardworking men and women of the utility company. The notion that the power company has some vendetta against Maplewood (or anywhere, for that matter) or that they aren't working as "fast enough" is the epitome of ignorance and selfishness.

They listed Hilton Area has a restored area. I live in the Hilton area and we are still with out power. We have not seen a single PSEG truck in our area. When I called PSEG they said we were on the blanket time frame of between November 9th thru November 15th restoration.

Kenesaw: the tree that is down on Parker and Prospect has wires on it, and DPW cannot remove it until PSEG gives town clearance.

I think the most frustrating thing here is the lack of information. If they said "your power will be back on day x" then I could make all the decisions and reservations appropriate.
But instead it's a blanket disclaimer with an out - customers in the hardest areas might take longer. But who knows if it will be sooner or longer? My house wasn't hit hard, but the while town seems to be out. Are we a hard-hit area?

Those of us in Winchester Gardens are still cold, hungry, starved for any updates and/or news and are angry! Many of us have left and sought refuge with friends and family elsewhere. But there are many for whom this was not possible. Certainly this community of elderly residents should have had a priority status! Dodie

Dodie, I know Mayor DeLuca and other officials visited WG today and spoke to the CEO and some residents. They are doing what they can, and WG has been prioritized for power restoration. Hang in, I know it is very challenging.

No power still in hillcrest Rd., between fernwood and orchard. I'm afraid that ours will be considered an individual problem, and that we'll get left behind from the rest and have our electricity the last to be restored.
