"Race to Nowhere" — the much-discussed documentary that sold out three theaters in Millburn in January, drew about 500 attendees to a Parenting Center fundraiser in March at Columbia High School, and played again in May at Tuscan School — is returning to South Orange and Maplewood for a screening at Prospect Co-Op Nursery School on Firday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Eddie Bennet, who is helping to publicize the screening for Prospect said, "This movie is so unique from the way it is distributed to the very issue itself. It's one no parent with children or educator should miss and we are very lucky to have it showing here in Maplewood."
“Race to Nowhere” has been making its way aroung the country, primarily being shown by PTAs and other school groups as a fundraiser. The documentary explores the "high-pressure, high-stakes culture" that, according to promotional materials, "has invaded our schools and children’s lives, creating unhealthy, disengaged, unprepared and stressed-out youth..... [t]he film tells the stories of young people pushed to the brink, burned-out teachers and deeply frustrated parents."
