Patch readers know where to get great corned beef, a cold ale or simply a friendly atmosphere to hang out with friends while they celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

After a week-long poll, readers in Essex County chose several fun local places where they plan to enjoy the holiday.

One of the favorite places was Tierney's Tavern in Montclair—a no frills, cash-only establishment that plans to sell 250 pounds of corned beef on Saturday and feature an Irish band starting at 4 p.m.

A little less than 15 minutes away is the Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell, a family-friendly pub on Bloomfield Avenue that opened in 1933 and is known for its wide selection of beers. Bagpipers will be joining in the celebration on Saturday.

Also along the Bloomfield Avenue corridor is O'Neil's Restaurant and Pub in Verona, which may be modest inside but boasts a generous Irish spirit.

Highland Place Bar and Grill in Maplewood Village ran away with our Readers' Choice poll this week on the best place to spend St. Patrick's Day in Maplewood.

McGovern's Tavern in Newark, a fixture on New Street, dating back to 1936, was a favorite among Newark readers, while residents of Belleville, cheered for Michael's Roscommon House, a family-owned tavern, well-known for its "Jersey wings."

Also chosen as a favorite among residents of the West Essex area was St. James's Gate Publick House, a bar known for its dark Guinness ale and a selection of Irish whiskey and single-malt Scotch, and O'Reilly's Bar & Grill on Millburn Avenue in Maplewood, which boasts several TVs for ample sports watching.

The hot spot for St. Patrick’s Day South Orange is Bunny's Sports Bar located at 12 W. South Orange Ave., while folks in West Orange said they plan to get their corned beef and cabbage at Gaffer's Pub, a neighborhood pub opened in 1976.

And in Bloomfield, fans said Obal's Inn on Broad Street—which is open seven days a week and is well-known for its ribs—is a St. Patrick's Day favorite.
