Gunshot Wound in Maplewood Village Confirmed, Details Forthcoming

A representative of the Maplewood Volunteer First Aid Squad confirms that the squad was dispatched to a shooting in Maplewood today. Another source confirms that the incident took place at a residence at 6 Highland Place.

Updated 2:12 p.m. May 23, 2011: Maplewood police confirm that the gunshot wound was a fatal wound. The police investigation is ongoing though police report that evidence suggests the wound was self-inflicted. Read more here.

A representative of the Maplewood Volunteer First Aid Squad confirmed that the squad was dispatched to the scene of a gunshot wound in Maplewood earlier today, but did not give further details.

"It's public knowledge that the First Aid Squad was dispatched to a shooting," said the source.

The source responded to a call from Patch prompted by a thread on MaplewoodOnline (which has since been removed) about rumors of a "self-inflicted despondent shooting" in Maplewood Village. However, the First Aid Squad source would not indicate how the shooting occurred.

Two other sources report that the incident took place in an upstairs residence at 6 Highland Place. The sources said the incident did NOT occur at , a restaurant that recently opened downstairs.

The First Aid Squad representative deferred to the Maplewood Police regarding information related to an ongoing investigation.

A call to the Maplewood Police Department at approximately 8:30 p.m. prompted this response from the desk officer: "For information on any incidents, contact the captain's desk after 9 a.m."
