Yesterday's clinic at Town Hall administering 400 doses of flu mist H1N1 vaccine went very well, according to observers and Maplewood Health Officer Robert Roe. "We have a great crew, great nurses," said Roe.

More vaccines have arrived but they contain the preservative thimerosal. No ill effects of this preservative in its current form have been scientifically proven but still Roe says these doses will be recommended for older children and adults.

No additional clinics are scheduled at this time, but they will be in the near future. This week, said Roe, the Health Department will concentrate on getting the vaccine out to private pediatricians who have registered for the vaccine. Still, more clinics will be scheduled and thousands of doses of H1N1 vaccines are still scheduled for delivery. "They could arrive in the next five minutes," said Roe.

Roe urges those interested in registering for upcoming clinics to email the Township at reminder@twp.maplewood.nj.us to be included on a group email list. The Health Department will then send out e-blast notifications when clinics are scheduled.

Last week, the Health Department reported that there was one confirmed case of H1N1 in Maplewood--a 38-year-old woman. Roe said that there are no additional confirmed cases. He did not have any additional information on the one case.

Patch called OmniMed in Florham Park, NJ, this morning, and they confirmed that they have no more H1N1 vaccines. We also checked in with the pediatric practice of Gruenwald, Commandatore and Sterio at 90 Millburn Avenue; they also have no H1N1 flu vaccine at this time.
