South Orange Maplewood Schools Could Open Thursday

Superintendent and town officials toured schools yesterday

Updated: Schools closed Thursday and Friday

Superintendent Brian Osborne tweeted a notice on Tuesday night that the district is "monitoring power restoration & cleanup efforts." Furthermore, he reports, "Only minor damage to SOMSD schools. Hoping any school with power on opens on Thursday."

This is welcome news to many students and parents who are home again for a third day running due to power outages and downed trees after Sandy struck the community.

As of Tuesday morning, Columbia High School appeared to have power.

Patch will update this story as more info becomes available. In the meantime, do you know of schools that DO or DON'T have power. Please post in the comments below or at facebook.com/sopatch

Major tree down with wires tangled in it on Brookside Road blocking the street. Jefferson School buses won't be able to get through.
