St. George's Episcopal Church has launched a $332,500 capital campaign to fund the replacement of its hundred year-old heating system — with a festive "Fire & Ice" reception.

A new forced air heating and cooling system was installed in October.  Replacement of the old single-pane windows in the Parish Hall and Resource Center is also scheduled. On November 12, the Fire & Ice cocktail reception helped generate support for the campaign.

Commenting on the new capital campaign, St. George’s Senior Warden Cheryl Notari stated, “St. George’s Church is our spiritual home, and just like any other home, things wear out and we need to repair or replace them. This past February several pipes began to leak, causing our very old steam heating system to fail. Realizing we had spent approximately $30,000 annually in repairs on this system over the last 3 years, we decided that replacing it was our best option. The new system we have chosen will not only provide zoned forced air heating but, will also provide air conditioning for the worship space, the offices and the parish hall.”

Church organizers say that these capital improvements will transform St. George's into a year-round house of worship and community resource, benefitting "both the worship services and the many organizations that use the facilities throughout the year."
