Sure Signs of Spring — Plant Sales!

Do not lose hope, people of Maplewood, spring IS coming, despite signs to the contrary this past week with frigid temperatures and the accumulation of more of that dastardly white stuff.

The snow that covered every crocus and daffodil in town is (nearly) melted, and other signs of spring abound.

Plant sales, for instance.

The Annual Seth Boyden PTA SPRING PLANT SALE got underway this past week. The sale is open to everyone — not just the Seth Boyden Demonstration School community. Download the attached form to order your plants, flowers, herbs, vegetables by Friday, April 8. Drop off forms at the school office on Boyden Avenue or place them in your child's backpack (if you have an SB student!). Purchases will be available for pick up at the school on Thursday, May 5 — just in time for Mother's Day.

Meanwhile, the mother of all Maplewood plant sales — the Maplewood Garden Club Annual Plant Sale — just announced its 2011 dates. They are:

• Thursday, May 5 from noon to 8 p.m.
• Friday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Proceeds from this sale promote garden information, scholarships and town beautification. The sale takes place at the Maplewood Community Pool parking lot at 187 Boyden Avenue and runs rain or shine. Foliage aficionados can choose among annuals, herbs, perennials, shrubs, vegetables and hanging baskets. And we're sure we've seen a few small trees at some past sales!

Watch your mail for the Garden Club's postcard which acts as a $1 discount coupon with any purchase of $10 or more.

Meanwhile, a number of local Girl Scout troops couldn't wait until May to get their helpful little hands on some fresh buds. The girls were in Maplewood Village early this morning braving the chilly weather and soaking up the strong sun to help plant some impatiens for Maplewood Village Planting Day.
