If you're a fan of theater, there are plenty of options for you this weekend.
This weekend also marks the opening of "Lost in Yonkers," the Paper Mill Playhouse's new play. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play is the story of two brothers who move in with their grandmother and aunt during World War II. Tickets range in price from $25 to $92, though student rush tickets will be available for $20 on the day of the performance. The play will run through March 14. Tickets can be ordered online on their Web site or by caling 973-376-4343.
Also in the theaters, the South Orange Performing Arts Center will be hosting a production of "Much Ado About Nothing" from the Seton Hall Arts Council the next two weekends. Shows are on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. General admissions tickets are $15 and can be booked here.
If you want to kick things off on Thursday, in Maplewood there is a night of comedy at 7:30 p.m. at the Cent'Anni Restaurant. Called "Funny Ladies Tell Funny Stories," the night will feature local female comedians. Tickets are $20 and the show runs 90 minutes. Tickets and more information can be found here.
On Saturday, the Friends of the Maplewood Memorial Library will hold a special book sale at the library at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise money. For $8 you can fill a bag with books of your choosing including thousands of fiction, non-fiction, and children's titles. More information can be found here.
On Sunday, the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center is hosting a New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Art Strings event—a special viewing of 10 painted violins by New Jersey artists created for the program. The violins will be auctioned off later this year to raise money for the symphony's educational programs. The event will run 2-5 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. Also at the center is the work of Helen Evans Ramsaran, which will remain there through the first week of March. The violins up for auction also can be viewed on the Symphony's website. Raffle tickets can be bought there as well.
On both Saturday and Sundays beginning this week and running through March 20, the New Jersey Arts Incubator in West Orange will be presenting its second contemporary art exhibition. The exhibit revolves around the theme of terra, or earth, and includes the work of 12 artists. There will be a reception on Saturday at 6-9 p.m. where the artists will be present. Admission is free.
