Township Committee Preview: Old Police Station Development and Woman's Club

Today was the deadline for exclusive negotiations with Mark Built Homes regarding purchase and development of the old police station. Also, an ordinance including the Woman's Club in the Maplewood Village Alliance is on final reading.

As always, it's anyone's guess as to what will be the hot topic at tonight's Township Committee meeting. Our bet is that the development and environmental cleanup of the old police station site at 125 Dunnell Road and the inclusion of the Woman's Club of Maplewood in the Maplewood Village Alliance special improvement district will be the items garnering the most attention.

The town's exclusive negotiation period with Mark Built Homes of Union for the purchase and development of the old police station site ends today, June 1. Will there be an announcement?

And will members of the Woman's Club show up in force to protest or at least question the inclusion of their building in a commercial district organization—in anticipation of the site's potential development or change in status to non-tax-exempt?

There are two items on the agenda related to parking regulations on Dunnell Road and Springfield Avenue (between Yale and Oberlin). A final item of note is the whether or not jitney stops in Millburn will continue.
