Two Local Ways to Burn Off the Fat This Weekend
Maplewood Boot Camp will give you free workouts Saturday AND Sunday with a toy drive donation. The SOMA Bicycle Coalition hosts its first group bike ride Sunday at noon.
Open space is always at a premium in Maplewood (see conversation re: Dunnell Road redevelopment), but, after Thanksgiving, there a little less space to go around.
One way to help shrink your waistline and give your neighbors some more breathing room is to work out. We've got two fun and virtually free ways to do that in town this weekend.
Saturday and Sunday, Maplewood Boot Camp will offer free weekend workouts at 8:30 a.m in Memorial Park (near the skate house) to anyone who brings a new unwrapped toy. Dress in layers and bring a workout mat.
Donated toys will be given to the South Orange-Maplewood School District’s Parenting Center. Toys are needed for all ages, both boys and girls, said Carlos Sanchez, director of the boot camp. The annual toy drive typically supplies more than 80 local families with toys for the holidays.
On Sunday at noon, bicycling enthusiasts will gather at noon at The Baird Center in South Orange for the first-ever SO/MA Bicycle Coalition Group Ride. Participants can choose between a 5-mile ride and a 10-mile ride. Route maps and directions will be provided at the time of the ride. Children are welcome to join.
