VIDEO: CHS Track & Field Team Prepare for State and National Level Competitions

Colosseum Gym at 525 Irvington Avenue in Newark is providing workout and practice space to get the Columbia High track teams through the winter in fine shape.

Lisa Morgan, head coach of both the boys and girls Columbia High School track teams, is excited about her teams for good reason. During her tenure as coach, she has trained 11 All-American runners and four State champions. The team itself is currently Essex County champs, recently won the state sectionals and is ranked as one of the top five high school track teams in the country.

During warm weather, the team trains at Underhill Field but winter weather limits workouts there. To pick up the slack, Vinnie Laracca, owner of Colosseum Gym at 525 Irivington Avenue in Newark, is providing workout space for the team and family members at reduced rates. Team members are using the gym to increase strength and fitness with weight training and other workout methods provided by Duke Richman.

Patch stopped by Colosseum Gym for a visit last Saturday. Watch Nilsa De La Cruz' interviews with Coach Morgan, trainer Duke Richman and some of the world-class runners from the girls track team.
