Videos: Community Band Concert

Before the rain came, Memorial Park was full of music

Shortly before this week's monsoon weather commenced, community musicians gathered in Memorial Park outside the main branch of the library to share music and cheer.

The home-brewed trombone quartet Bones Unlimited kicked off the proceedings with a set that included Duke Ellington's "I'm Beginning to See the Light."

"Ironic given the weather" commented band member Susan Dillon, but the rain held off long enough for Dillon and her fellow Bones band members Ben Williams, Jim Weiss and Jim Buchanan to run through a lively set.

The Maplewood community band turned in a spirited performance of songs ranging from the music of 17th century composers to tunes from late 20th century rock 'n' roll. "Fanfare Rondeau" by Jean-Joseph Mouret (which some may recognize as the theme song for PBS's Masterpiece Theater) was featured alongside Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary."

Patch videographer Barry Kaufman was on hand to capture the music.
