Your Maplewood Storm Damage Update

PSE&G is predicting Wednesday and Thursday for restoration of power to areas still affected. Meanwhile, Tuscan Road remains closed between Prospect and Yale. Bowdoin is closed as well.

Four areas of town remain without power, according to Township Administrator Joseph Manning, and PSE&G does not expect to be able to restore power to the affected areas before Wednesday and even Thursday.

Tuscan Road remained closed between Prospect Street and Yale as of 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon, with traffic being diverted to Springfield Avenue. An electrical transformer on Bowdoin near Tuscan reportedly went on fire on Sunday and remains blocked off by yellow tape. Bowdoin is also closed to traffic. Homes in the area are without power, though Prospect Co-op Preschool and Tuscan Elementary are unaffected.

Manning provided this complete list of Township outages on Monday afternoon:

As of now, there are several neighborhoods in Maplewood whose residents are without electrical power due to downed electrical wires or trees falling on electrical wires. Those areas are:

  • Walton Road between Maplewood Avenue and Jefferson Avenue
  • Cherry Place between Hillcrest Place and Parker Avenue
  • Tuscan Road in the Bowdoin Street area
  • Claremont Avenue between Claremont Drive

There may be other individual homes throughout Maplewood without power because of trees falling and taking down the power lines from the utility poles to the individual home.

Maplewood Township has notified PSE&G of the four neighborhood locations and is waiting for the repair crews to arrive. Unfortunately, PSE&G is estimating that a majority of customers will be restored by Wednesday (2/17) with the remainder on Thursday (2/18).

To report power outage, call PSE&G Customer Service line: 1-800-436-PSEG.

Manning also wants you to know that the Township of Maplewood will pick up storm damage tree parts (that means branches, not trunks!) during its normal spring rake out which starts on Monday, March 22, 2010. The complete rake schedule is available under "spring rake out schedule" on the Township website.
