Inspired by the Olympics? Get Active, Get Fit on Springfield Avenue

Feeling inspired by the success of the American athletes who helped lead the United States to a record number of medals for a Summer Olympic Games?  Hoping to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, or simply to put down the remote, get off the couch and get going? You’ll find some great places to get started on Maplewood’s Springfield Avenue, along with lots of convenient free parking, plus great restaurants and stores nearby.

New Jersey sent 20 athletes to London this summer who competed in everything from fencing, gymnastics and judo, to basketball, swimming and wrestling, including four members of the gold medal winning women’s soccer team. To get fit like an Olympian, check out EastSide Fitness (1865 Springfield Avenue) for personal training sessions, fitness classes, strength training or do-it-yourself workouts on their wide range of workout equipment.

If the martial arts competitions were your favorite part of the Olympics, Shihan Durand Howard, the owner of Blue Life Karate and Fitness (1809 Springfield Avenue) an 8th Degree Black Belt and a member of the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame, World Karate Union Hall of Fame, and the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame can get you started in karate, self-defense, fitness, kickboxing and more.
