Mark, I suspect these numbers show that the home market in Maplewood is healthier than most realRead More estate markets. That's not saying much, i.e. it might be better to say the market is not as weak as most other places. Still, if I were selling my home, I would try to tell myself that I don't need a market, I just need to make one sale. That's what I do when looking for a job: I tell myself I don't need an economy, I just need a job. Either the job or the sale will happen; it just may take longer. I'd be interested in knowing the statistics on the decline of listing prices. Are they available? In other words, for each house, the initial listing price started at X and went down to X*Y (where Y is a fractional number greater than zero and less than one) in 2011, but in 2010, the Y was a larger number than it was in 2011.

We reminisce about the early days of Home Ownership...we refer to them as the hidden costs... thingsRead More like the sewer bill, the Waste Management bill, the Tree Guy, the sidewalks...There are also little local details like you can not park in the street over night in Maplewood, and when you hear the trash truck no need to run out in your pajamas in this town...the Trash Collectors retrieve your trash from the cans in the back yard! Who knew???

Fantastic laundry list except one crucial thing, demographics! When one or a family moves to anRead More unfamiliar location it might be wise to Rent for a short time. Sometimes we just don't like the place, not the home, that is worse than a major repair on your house. Creature Comfort! +++
