On Tuesday, Nov. 8, Clinton School in Maplewood was not only host to polling booths where registered voters cast their ballots for township, county and state elections. Clinton students were also busy electing their student government officers for 2011-2012. An experienced and effective body, Clinton’s student government has been an important part of this elementary school for many years. Under the guidance of Lindy Rollo, Clinton’s social worker, the student government consists of four fifth grade officers (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary) and two class representatives …
A local Republican challenger who was defeated last night in his 5th bid for election to the Maplewood Township Committee says that local elections should be non-partisan. But incumbent Mayor Vic DeLuca, re-elected for his 5th term on the Township Committee on Tuesday, made a clear statement in support of partisan elections. “Though to many it may sound like sour grapes," wrote Bart Albini in an email message to Patch, "I did not expect the results to be any different. Until we have non-partisan campaigns and elections, there will never be a difference in the election outcome. There are too …
The final totals are in — with 21 or 21 districts reporting — for the race for two seats on the Maplewood Township Committee and it's not even close. His running mate, local attorney Joel Ziegler came in fourth with 808. DeLuca and Larrier won by a 3.5-to-1 margin this year, whereas Marlon K. Brownlee won by a less than 3-to-1 margin last year (4,717 votes compared to 1,639 for Albini) when Albini …
Polls open Tuesday morning in Maplewood, but there has been very little campaigning from local Republican hopefuls Bart Albini and Joel Ziegler for the two seats up for election on the Maplewood Township Committee. Democratic incumbent Mayor Vic DeLuca and Democratic newcomer India Larrier have been seen campaigning door to door and at various locations around town. Their fliers have come through the mail, but as of Saturday's U.S. Postal delivery, it seems as though no mailing has been sent from Albini and Ziegler — as far as Patch can determine. The two Republicans were also a no-show at …
Incumbent Sen. Richard J. Codey will compete with Republican challenger William H. Eames on Tuesday, Nov. 8 for the N.J. Senate seat representing the 27th District. Towns now in the 27th District include: Caldwell, Chatham Township, East Hanover, Essex Fells, Florham Park, Hanover, Harding, Livingston, …
