ENROLL IN THE 12COMICS ACADEMIC  AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM

The 12Comics Learning Support Program (LSP) is unique Interdisciplinary Literacy Support (ILS) service for children and youth.  The 12Comics LSP uses the creation of a superhero,  custom comic book or short film as instructional tools. These tools teach and enhance literacy, reading, writing, and math. The program insures that students increase their knowledge in the natural sciences and history, while increasing their vocabulary and oral communications skills.

The 12Comics Learning Support Program is proud to announce our New Academic Superhero After School Program starting Sept 7th @ 1677 Springfield Ave in Maplewood. Students participating in the program will receive a published Comic Book at the end of the school year!

The 12 Comics After School Program is a stimulating place for school-age children and youth, while providing opportunities for participation in some, or all, of the following activities:

◦              Academic skill-building and homework help

◦              Sports and recreation

◦              Exploration of special interests such as art, computers and technology, crafts, games, etc.

◦              Unstructured play

◦              Homework and remedial help

◦              Cultural activities

Upon arrive at 12 Comics After School, homework completion is the first priority.  Students receive homework help and are required to read independently.  Once homework assignments are finished, students will work on development of their characters and comic book story.

12COMICS PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

The 12 Comics method promotes the connection of student academic achievement to the growth of their super hero character. The better the student does in school, the students' created hero becomes more prominent and powerful. Report card grades, completed homework assignments, and test scores are all converted into points (i.e. an A or 100% on a test equals 20 points). These points are applied to the student's super hero character statistics. This motivates students to complete school work and to study knowing their success will affect their character and comic book story.

In addition to creating and developing a superhero character, students have the opportunity to participate in our entrepreneurial component.  This allows students to experience the marketing, and selling, of their comic book as well as receiving royalties from sales of any merchandise or book signings that feature their character.

At the end of the school year, students will produce either a custom biographical comic book or a collaborative, professionally illustrated comic book.
