A Black Cowboy’s Ride Across America with author Lisa Winkler
Miles J. Dean, a Newark, NJ schoolteacher, rode his horse from New York to California to celebrate the contributions African Americans made in the settling of the United States. Dean’s story demonstrates that an ordinary person can accomplish the extraordinary.
More About Words Bookstore
Words appeared on Maplewood Ave. in Jan., 2009, shortly after the close of Goldfinch books around the corner on Baker. Though Words has over twice the selection and size of Goldfinch, this is not a case of a new business behemoth crushing a beloved little Mom and Pop business.
The stores share common DNA; shortly before it closed, Goldfinch was purchased by Maplewood resident Jonah Zimiles, the owner of Words. The new store has the same ambiance, focus and employees as Goldfinch. But with more room to play with, it has expanded its selection and hours of operation.
Noteworthy offerings at the store include a robust special needs section and a children’s seating area with table, chairs, rug and bean bag chairs as well as two other seating areas.
