Atticus Theatre Workshop Presents: What's Your Story? Open Mic Night!

Atticus Theatre Workshop will premiere works by five of its’ writers as well as work from the public. The event presents readings of original writing, from poetry to prose, as well as a conversation with the writers of the evening.  Light refreshments will be provided iin a salon-style atmosphere at The Ethical Culture Society of Essex County, 516 Prospect, St. Maplewood, NJ 07040.  The society’s phone number is (973) 763-1905, and website is www.essexethical.org.

The founder of Atticus Theatre Workshop, Lori Adrien Roper hopes to offer the rare opportunity for new writers to hear their work come to life.  In Roper's words, "We hope to usher work through the crucial first step for any dramatic work; to provide transition from the page to the stage."

The Ethical Culture Society of Essex County is part of the American Ethical Union and takes as its guiding principle: "our highest human ideal is to act so as to elicit the best in others and thus ourselves." A main focus of the members is exploring philosophical and current questions of the day. 

The Essex County chapter, located at Prospect and Parker since 1951, has a had several leaders over the course of its history. Presently, the lay leadership is presiding at the weekly platform presentations and at special events. Boe Meyerson and Jim White are Leaders Emeriti.  Jim White now serves as Leader at another Ethical Culture Society in Riverdale, NY.
