Book Signing at Words
Author Lev Grossman will be at Words to read from and sign copes of his book The Magicians .
Precocious high school senior Quentin Coldwater assumes that magic isn't real, until he is admitted
to a very secretive and exclusive college of magic. There he indulges in friendship, love, sex, and
booze and receives a rigorous education in modern sorcery. But magic doesn't bring the happiness and adventure Quentin thought it would. After graduation, he and his friends stumble upon a secret that sets them on a remarkable journey that may fulfill Quentin's yearning. Their trip turns out to be darker and more dangerous than they'd imagined. Psychologically piercing and dazzlingly inventive, The Magicians is an enthralling coming-of-age tale about magic practiced in the real world, where good and evil aren't black and white, and power comes at a terrible price.
More About Words Bookstore
Words appeared on Maplewood Ave. in Jan., 2009, shortly after the close of Goldfinch books around the corner on Baker. Though Words has over twice the selection and size of Goldfinch, this is not a case of a new business behemoth crushing a beloved little Mom and Pop business.
The stores share common DNA; shortly before it closed, Goldfinch was purchased by Maplewood resident Jonah Zimiles, the owner of Words. The new store has the same ambiance, focus and employees as Goldfinch. But with more room to play with, it has expanded its selection and hours of operation.
Noteworthy offerings at the store include a robust special needs section and a children’s seating area with table, chairs, rug and bean bag chairs as well as two other seating areas.
